Text Analytics

Text analytics is a feature for EvaluationKIT by Watermark that uses natural language processing and machine learning technologies to transform open-ended course evaluation survey responses - the “Voice of the Student” - into useful data and insights for more informed decision making. Administrators and instructors can now supplement reporting and analyses of predefined survey responses with deeper views into and understanding of student sentiment.

Once enabled, the EK Admin can select which open-ended responses will be submitted for analysis against a predefined set of themes and categories. The timing of when this analysis is performed is also configurable right in the Reports > Text Analytics section.

Analyzed results are included in Project Results reporting, displaying a summary of responses against top themes with a corresponding count and percent of responses and sentiment score.

The EvaluationKIT Text Analytics tool allows EvaluationKIT Administrators to choose specific Write-in (open ended text response) questions from the survey assigned to that project to be evaluated for narrative themes and subsequently assigned a sentiment score to help identify and analyze the positive and negative comment trends within that evaluation period. Those theme-based sentiment scores are then included automatically in the Project Results reports for that project.


OPERATIONAL STEPS

Login as the EvaluationKIT Administrator to manage the Project-Level Reporting Settings and navigate to the project in which you’d like to enable the Text Analytics tool, and then navigate to the Report Setup > Text Analytics.

Setup

  1. Control which write-in questions are included in analysis.
  2. Control timing of when analysis is performed.

Results

  1. Results are Automatically included in Project Results Reporting when implemented
  2. Includes Summary Table of Top Themes in the Text Responses
    1. Includes count and percent metrics for each theme.
    2. Sentiment scoring of text response themes grouped into Negative, Neutral, and Positive categories to see count and percent metrics of themes.
    3. Sentiment Score for each theme, which is a single metric from -1 to +1 that weights how positive or negative the text responses in that theme are.
